MINNEAPOLIS PERSONALITY DAVE SCHRADER STARS IN NEW TRAVEL CHANNEL SHOW
(FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE)
Open the portals and let the competition begin. Each week, beginning June 17, that statement will launch “Paranormal Challenge,” a new ghost hunting show on the Travel Channel starring Minneapolis radio show host and author Dave Schrader as the Chief Judge.
Schrader, host of paranormal talk radio show “Darkness on the Edge of Town” on St. Louis Park-based Twin Cities News Talk, will be joining Zak Bagans from Travel Channel’s hit “Ghost Adventures” each week on “Paranormal Challenge” to guide and judge two competing ghost hunting teams at the nation’s most haunted locales.
“The two teams are competing for bragging rights,” says Schrader, “But we’re all excited to bring logic to the paranormal, something I’ve always tried to do with my radio show.”
In addition to hosting the radio show on the 100 thousand watt station for nearly seven years, as well as boasting more than 10,000 national and international downloads of the show through his website www.darknessradio.com, Schrader has played an extensive role in the popular paranormal entertainment genre.
He has appeared on six episodes of “Ghost Adventures” - including on the live Halloween episode, the Travel Channel’s highest rated broadcast - and is the co-author of The Other Side: A Teens Guide to Ghost Hunting and the Paranormal. Schrader has also worked with other top-rated supernatural reality programs “Ghost Hunters” and “Paranormal State” through his event company, Darkness Events, which routinely sells out nationwide ghost hunts with paranormal celebrities and lecturers.
Schrader sums up his appeal with paranormal fans by saying, “I’ve always enjoyed playing up the scary, fun side of the paranormal - but as a way to educate people so they know they don’t have to be afraid.”
As a result, instead of being cast, Schrader’s role in “Paranormal Challenge” was via invitation. After working with, and appearing on, many paranormal shows throughout the years, Zak Bagans and the Travel Channel personally asked him to join, and to bring his sensibility from “Darkness” to the new show.
In his position of Chief Judge, Schrader will work with Bagans and preside over two celebrity guest judges each week, who will assess the competing teams based on acquired evidence, teamwork, use of history and technology.
But more importantly, Schrader says, “I will be the voice of logic for the public and the people at home watching these shows who may ask, ‘why are they doing things this way?’”
So far, after filming nearly a dozen episodes of the show, Schrader says one of the most exciting parts of “Paranormal Challenge” is seeing the teams return after hours of investigating the locations with what they believe is solid evidence of the paranormal.
“Sometimes I don’t agree with them, but there have been more than a few times I’ve been really blown away.”
That’s why “Paranormal Challenge” has a broader appeal than other ghost hunting shows, says Schrader. By “breaking down and looking at mistakes many paranormal investigators make,” the show will connect to true believers, skeptics and even those with just a passing interest in ghostly phenomena.
Speaking of connecting with others, the best part of being Chief Judge on “Paranormal Challenge,” as Schrader sees it, is the chance to make proud a community that has supported him all along.
“The great fans of the ‘Darkness’ radio show and events - and the local Twin Cities media who gave me opportunities to talk about this sometimes crazy-sounding paranormal stuff – helped get me to this point.”
That’s what Dave Schrader says he’s thinking of with each episode he films of the new show: “What will my friends and neighbors back home want me to ask? And how can I serve them the best from this job?”
