Before everyone gets all excited, I want to make it clear that we are not calling for the impeachment of Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie . . . but shouldn’t someone at least be asking the question?
The Minnesota Secretary of State is charged with the responsibility to ensure that our elections are fair, impartial and honest. Article VIII, section 2 of the Minnesota Constitution provides for impeachment by the Minnesota House of Representatives “for corrupt conduct in office or for crimes and misdemeanors.”
By possibly using his elected office to actively campaign against ballot initiatives proposing to amend the Minnesota Constitution, duly passed by the Minnesota legislature, has the Secretary of State committed “corrupt conduct in office” or violated any applicable law, ie campaign finance laws? If so, he could be subject to impeachment by the Minnesota House of Representatives . . . but is anyone in St. Paul asking these questions?
