Politico has a post-fiscal cliff analysis that depicts the plodding, frustrating process that led to last night's deal. After numerous attempts to close a grand bargain with President Obama (and a failed attempt to pass his own tax cut bill), Speaker Boehner lashed out at Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for accusing the Republican of running a "dictatorship" in the House.

"Go f--- yourself," Boehner sniped as he pointed his finger at Reid. The senator was taken aback: "What are you talking about?"

"Go f--- yourself," Boehner repeated.

The exchange signified a series of missteps, false starts, and concessions that ultimately left us with a deal that punts the sequester spending cuts for two months and increases tax rates on Americans making more that $400,000/year.
